Small Steps Lead to Big Strides

What are the culprits that keep people stuck?  Here are some of the big ones I almost always see in life coaching:
1)  The idea of being good enough.  “I need to be at a certain level before I can really do what I love.  I need the proper training, certification, outer validation first.”
2)  Being a perfectionist.  “I or what I have to offer has to be perfect before it is offered to the world.”  This of course goes back to #1, being good enough.
3) Feeling overwhelmed of the thought of all the work that goes into acting on your dream.
Lao Tzu said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”  He didn’t say 100 steps, a handful of steps, just one single step.  It doesn’t even have to be a good step, as many of us know, those first ones are often wobbly and insecure.  The only thing that matters is that you take it that first small step.  That’s all you can really do.  It’s the small ones that lead to the bigger ones – if you allow yourself to do one thing at a time.
Allowance, space and small steps.  That’s it.  Instead of writing a book, write a page.  Instead of a masterpiece, doodle on a napkin.  Do anything that brings you closer to what it is you want to do.  Let go of the big picture and all the responsibilities attached it to.  What’s something you’ve been wanting to do?  What’s a small first step you can take right now?  Maybe it’s just a phone call, or writing it down.  Try it and see.
I say it’s better to put it out there with ridden with mistakes than to not put it out there at all.  You never know who will benefit or be inspired by what you do.
